First what does indigenous mean?
Indigenous means native. The first people to live in a land are called natives or indigenous people of that land. Example of indigenous people
- Red Indians in America
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Australia
- Sami in Norway, Sweden and Finland.
- Maori Indians in New Zealand.
- Ainu people in Japan.
Aboriginal is often used to describe natives, because “aboriginal” mean’s “first or earliest known”.
I’m now going to tell you more about the indigenous people of New Zealand, called the Maori.
